The fourth annual BEAMS show at the Howard County Center for the Arts is a lively presentation of little-known artists whose work, in a variety of media, is by turns comic, poignant, thoughtful and effervescent.

The stand-outs of the show included Baltimore artist Caniglia's oil painting, "Welcome to America". Compressing the action into the top half of the canvas, it shows a man/woman with a chalk white skin pressed to the floor by an assailant, armed with a handgun. These topical themes were mesmerizing.
